my mind walks beside you there
under the trees of stone
with leaves that whisper
as we hold hands
with a key ring
and keys
to your many places
forgotten but still needed
though you say you don't know why

and you ask about mine
how many I have
are they old or new
what are they too
do I use them often
and you tell me about lonely
being a painful disease
that cuts holes in your heart
and ruins your dreams at night

why do you talk that way
about my only fiend
and most loyal lover
about the god I worship
when on those winter highways
about my maker of memories
that sits on my blind shoulder
and just leaves me alone
to enjoy her lack of company

for those hours of keyless silence

A walk in a petrified forest?  Still the leaves whisper like ghosts to leave the night dreams for daydreams in the middle of the afternoon, and some keys are just for the music they make on the ring, keepsakes of locks long broken.  ~ Klassy

I'm glad I wandered in today, I've missed reading you .. and I love this write. I keep keys on the off chance that I might want to reopen past locked doors
