Guardian Of The Shore

Rising above this harbor town you stand both tall and still
Silently you keep a watch from your post upon the hill
Beside the ocean waters so beautiful, dark, and deep
Guardian, you shine your light while the harbor is asleep

The seamen watch your beacon that will guide them safely home
Your welcomed light brings comfort from wherever they may roam
They know that you will be there through fair weather or through gale
Always watching, ever guiding, o’er the waters that they sail

Countless sailors you’ve brought home from trips both far and near
Safely back to see the loved ones they hold oh so dear
Many a seaman’s wife has given whispered thanks to you
For your strong light that in a storm, has pulled her sweetheart through

Far out at sea the ships can see your beacon bright and clear
The sailors know a warm soft bed is getting very near
They think about their families who’ll be waiting at the door
And they too, give a whispered thanks to the guardian of the shore
