Love's Darkest Night
(A Tanka String)

Obsidian skies
reflect on these dark waters,
a beacon to none.
A loon cries loud his regret
as waves sharpen on the shore.

The icy onyx
obliterates all colors,
leaving naught but black.
Night devoid of light and hope
quietly consumes my soul.

My light was purloined
by your black heart of lost loves;
a bewitching girl
with cares for none but yourself.
My ravaged heart sought solace.

No comfort was found
on the shores of surrender,
as light and hope dimmed.
Aloneness was the reward,
and the nightfall hid my tears.

Now soulless and lost,
I exorcise my demons.
Dark imaginings
are relegated to ghosts
of all that will never be.

I stand in the dark.
While looking into midnight,
I sense a faint glow.
Soon, the Northern Lights appear,
A harbinger for lost souls.

The skies hiss and pop
as colors drape like curtains
dancing in a breeze.
My heart and soul are salvaged,
renewed by Nature's spirit.

Night draws to a close.
As dawn nears, the dark retreats.
My senses sharpen.
These dark waters teem with life,
and I greet the day with hope.

I prefer to be a dreamer among the humblest, with visions to be realized, than lord among those without dreams and desires. -Khalil Gibran

Very much enjoyed John!

No spring, nor summer beauty
hath such grace...
As I have seen in one autumnal face.

Great minds just MUST think alike~

sends hearts in search of true love
Often found hiding
Amid the shadows of night
Uncovered with light's renew~

Hi, Marge.

Hmmmm..."Great minds."  Yes!  I like it!

And yes, there is a definite similarity in our thinking.  Great minds, indeed!
