Beyond the comedy of “mister”,
Slid without measure in a passing thought,
Lies the truth of a youth in an autumn sway
Denying my age away.

Grown ups deck the night in fashioned suits;
All clubs and diamonds, hearts and spades
Cut strict to waste the time of fools.
Who’d shuffle weathered tools?

This frogging boy, all mousing eyes
And carefree ways, has dreams to burn.
Too busy toying with my time
To be the “mister” that they see.

It's the journey, not the destination...why rush the growing up
