Listening to every heart

When Life Bobbed

Ups and downs within the ins and outs
a fish’s tale to take up if’n the fin bites
but

when life Bobbed….

and I sat between the love of them,

a tail’s hook took bits of
cheese ’n’cracker,
life’s touch, blessed by fingers who knew
those hard times prayed easy,
for ears in steady heard the moon’song
having readied the poles
for a fall morning’s foggy mist
the night before,

and there we were,
in morning calm of Cali-sun
and ocean’s breath ~

while dad hummed a tune or two
or birdcalled a feather from turquoise skies
by wing of breath, and then
there, sat me,

between the Bobs, sinking singing lines
under whispering buoys of heart,
unto clear waters, while cheeks met
greening ground wet with glassy eyed dew
of last night’s kiss….

while we wondered, true, if
mother was waking to an early morn
where peace-filled roses pinked
onto a sun’s delight upon her trellis,

and if she was missing us
at all.

~ It sounds, or reads like a time in a life through the thoughts of nostalgia. Beautifully written.

JCP, my father, Bob, and my brother, Bob, were my rocks.  Whether I knew it at that time, or not, it is in this memory, ultimately, that it was to be, and how it  is has played out....in memory, and in kind.  You have hit upon it, Sir, and I thank you for reading.

Sissie....Those times of fishing for me, not with my dad or brother, but with my husband, are blessed because of some peace that water and land bring to me, and the goodness of love.  I love your memories!

"and I sat between the love of them,"

Karilea, I read this late last night..
awoke in the night with the words~
"I sat between the love of them" in my mind.
Perhaps those words made me remember
the closeness I had with my parents..
not sure, but I do think so.
And, I can appreciate this piece even more because of the memories it evoked.
And, I thank you for that.

Hugs~Nancy

Kari - I really enjoyed the soft, breathy, reminiscent telling of this snapshot in time.

Readin' Karilea's wonderful poem was particularly 'special' for me....it touched my mind (memory), heart, and spirit on oh so many levels....I lost my dad [a supreme 'natural philosopher'; environmentalist; and fisherman(same name as myself with Robert as part of it)]and my brother (1st name Robert)...and, in another sense....my own life is currently 'bobing' in the winds and waves of 'outrageous fortune'; etc.
I LOVE "birdcalled a feather from turquoise skies"!....as a geologist, I also thought of Turquoise (my favorite mineral) and its symbolism for me (as via the grand work of fine Navajo artisans) of corporal and spritual healing; etc....readin' this was truly a burst of fine 'sunshine' in my very 'rainy' day!

Kari, this is such a loving way to remember him. Reading this, it's easy to understand the depths of missing him and your brother, whose poetry I miss!
