Very personal poem I just wrote and wanted to see what you thought- derives from years of struggling with depression. We must come out of the dark sometime

Why does your heart jump so
When I step a faulty step,
Or look out windows wrong.
With your head in your hands
I see what it’s like to be the mother of
Disgrace;
The father of all things
Troublesome;
I’ll smile again knowing that inside of you
I am what you’re lacking,
Pretending to see solutions to problems
So intricately wound,
Into the very breath we breathe
And the air we ever so slowly regret swallowing.
Maybe to you
I’m just another statistic
And I will never be whole
In your eyes
Till light breaks upon stranded shadows
And I am me again.

interesting

it deals with reactions to depression as much as depression itself

i can feel you being watched and I feel the edginess of the situation

intense poem

and thanks for your generous comments on my poetry

Thank you very much... I did try to incorporate both aspects of depression in the poem since they have both affected me equally. You're very welcome for the comments, I really like your style.

Hi,

I was clinically depressed too. Maybe will be again.

I like the way you bring Depression to life here.

Enjoyed.

Stepping out of the darkness, acknowledging it rather than denying it...is in itself, a powerful step towards self acceptance and wholeness.
Kudos to you. And thank goodness there are medicines that treat true depression. This comment comes from one who hates taking  medicines. LOL.

FNG- I hope you are feeling better, and stay that way. Depression is the true test of our souls strength. Simply the hardest thing I've come across in life so far.
I'm glad you enjoyed the poem, thank you.

Midnitesun- Thank you very much, and you are right about taking that step out of the darkness. I personally agree with you, I hate medicine but I'm very glad it's there . Poetry is my medicine... Take care.

This is a truly 'important' poem on multiply (nested) levels!.... particularly for those of us who have been 'oft locked in the dance with the 'black wolf' (depression)....I have always written 'BECAUSE of' it....but, have NEVER been able to write 'ABOUT' it.  I am so very, very glad this fine 'poetic voice' has both the courage and talent to do so!
This 'write' will mean so much to all of us who have 'been there'!
