Philosophy 101

Some folks believe in the cosmos
they believe in true love and destiny
so I thought I'd test my philosophy
and bought a glow-in-the-dark galaxy.

All different-sized stars, shooting stars,
little moons, comets, Earth, and Mars
and I pasted them up one by one
hundreds and hundreds till I was done.

A hundred-watt bulb for each socket
on for a minute then off real quick
leaped to the bed fast as a rocket
and there the midnight sky lay thick.

Then for a fleeting moment I'd swear
the stars twinkled and the moon winked at me
and if the fan was on to blow the air
I'd mistake it for a breeze coming in off the sea.

Lying still, my creation heavy on my eyes
the arrival of the hour brings essence of dawn
Centaurus and Orion meet certain demise
from luminescent to blindly opaque, then gone.

So from this I can draw only one conclusion
"destiny" interpreted means inevitable decay
and love is merely a concocted illusion
partakes a fleeting moment, then quietly fades away.

my grandson pasted those on the wall in my spare bedroom...I reconized the big dipper.  As for love and the cosmos, we are very limited in our perceptions of both.
But it is a wonderful write with a little twist of scepticism at the end.  ~ Klassy

"and love is merely a concocted illusion

only sometimes Dixie...

sometimes love will live on your ceiling
forever
and still sparkle and glow

I am so taken with your poem
