The Forever Song
(What Eyes Have Never Seen)

We walked hand-in-hand,
‘til the sun went down.
You kissed me, breathless,
with the passion of a thousand lives;
which is how long I shall remember
this sweet embrace.

Suddenly, it is daylight,
and I am left to wonder;
whither went the night?
Thither comes the day,
and I am caught
twixt a new love and a dream.

We know each other not,
yet in each other's arms
I know that in time we will learn how
to keep the world away--forever
--although forever is far too few
lifetimes to fathom your depth.

How can a kiss last for untold hours?
How can my mind
not remember anything
between dusk and dawn?
The answer is so apparent
that it escapes me...

Yet, on some level I discern,
as a flower knows when to grow,
that I could nevermore dream
of anyone, or anything, but you
--even if I do not know your name--
as I know, intimately, your soul.

So, casting off the suffocating skins
that hold us confined,
wrapped in a shell of stifling aloneness,
we join as one,
and our spirits dance
with the essence of the universe.

O, beauty! We cry with joy,
as together we mount the heavens.
To soar and pirouette
into the heart of the forever song
that sings the sky to rest
and gentles the wrinkles of time.

Mother Earth fades into mist,
as Father Sky ascends to greet us
with a bouquet of constellations
chosen only for us;
the most beautiful collection
that eyes have never seen.

At last, the music of the stars
caresses us to sleep
--a dream of one mind and heart,
lost to time and care--
as the sprites of kindred transcendency
dust us with the magic of eternity.

Great imagery, and an ethereal quality to the emotions.  You have written euphoria so very well John.

You spirit the reader away into a beautiful wonderland and return us home again where the forever song echoes as if in a dream.  No need to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the read!

Thanks, TD.

I was thinking about my nights in Lake Tahoe when I wrote this.  I swear that they look so close that you feel as if you could reach up and grab a few stars from the sky.

HI, TL.

Thanks for the nice comments.  I was attempting to convey the beauty in a starlit sky.

Hi, Honeybunch.

I am so glad that you came along for the ride.  I was trying to evoke just those sorts of images.

Thanks for your kind words and encouraging thoughts!
