First day of school

Welcome to the first day of school,
Where teachers talk and lay down the rules.
When the rule is broken you look like a fool,
but you laugh it off and try to look cool.

You know the time...
When summer is an end,
We try not to offend,
and a malfunction to comprehend,

Heads are down to slumber,
constantly checking locker and classroom numbers,
School is a bummer.

This, teachers may not agree,
but we all can see that this is not the place for me,
Stomachs growl like each minute is an hour,
the principal stands tall and grins with power.
In the period of math some may cower,
it's as if the teacher were a falling tower.

Far from freedom we've become...
Well at least that's for some.

well, school is something you gotta do, at least up to a certain point.

When I was 17, I dropped out. Got pregnant, had a baby, went back for my GED and then went back for college

College was tough with two kids and no husband by then but I loved going back to school

That was in 95 and I'd go back again now in a New York minute!
