Moonlight Beach

An old man sits a-rocking; people think he’s quite insane
Across his lap is a blanket, beside him lies his cane
He doesn’t hear their laughter, his thoughts they cannot breach
For in his mind he’s traveling to a place called moonlight beach

It’s there his thoughts have taken him across the many miles
Where he once held his lover with her warm and gentle smiles
Her memories bring comfort to the old man in the chair
And he can see her soft white skin and flowing silken hair

He dances with his lady love and softly takes her hand
And they stroll along together across the soft white sand
She comes to him at twilight ‘cross the water dark and deep
And gently takes his frail hand as he softly falls asleep

The old man passed away last night, a smile upon his face
He’s not confined within a chair; he’s left that dreary place
He’s young again and dancing and she’s within his reach
And they are holding hands again, alone, on moonlight beach

Ah, Steve...I like poems like this...
I have one or two of them myself,
back in the archives, but my meter
is not nearly as good as yours...

I keep trying, however, to make them
sing like yours...

thank you for this!

Wow, this poem sings. The metre is perfect and the memory superb.
cheers

Most excellent write Stephen.
Amazing piece of work.
You have great talent.

No spring, nor summer beauty
hath such grace...
As I have seen in one autumnal face.
