Days Of Whine And Roses

“You’re not supposed to have that dear”
A familiar song I often hear
No cookies and no cherry pie
“Your glucose level is too high”

I try to sneak a little snack
My wife is there behind my back
The kids are in on this game too
“Hey Dad, that is not good for you”

Then I just watch as they all eat
A nice delicious chocolate treat
My wife points out the treats for me
Sugar free crap is all I see

Tasteless cookies in a bag
I take a bite and start to gag
Their smiling faces make me sick
I’d like to give them all a kick

And then one day I’ve had enough
I throw out all the yummy stuff
When they come in to grab a bite
Their goodies are nowhere in sight

The wife and kids feel very blue
When I say “It’s not good for you”
But I will give you some of mine
Remember this stuff’s mighty fine

I really love my little joke
When they take a bite and start to choke
As they wipe their eyes and noses
I smile at days of whine and roses
