          FIRST RESPONDERS

They fly at the first
Light of day
After working
By moonbeams
The night before
They are called
THE FIRST RESPONDERS

They only know
They must respond
For so many depend
Upon them, for a chance
For life to continue

They fly low, over the
Power lines, at great risk
To life and limb, aware they
Had to do, what must be done
For somewhere out there
On a roof top, or some parcel
Floating, was a person
In desparate need, the cries
For help, seem so many
For the few, they can assist

From roof top, to roof top
To home made rafts, they fly
In again and again, dangling
From a string, in the sky
They land and lift, away the few
Consouling others, they wlll return

Then they come, to one
A mother and child
Alone on a parcel of roof
The water rising so
Terrribly fast, the mother
Begging, to save her child
Decision is swift
THE RESPONDER
Goes down, landing
Close to the child
The mother struggles
In the water below
Keeping her child
From danger there
He reaches for her
No chance to assist
She pleads with him
Take my child mister
He is all I have
Her pleads, he heeds
Knowing full well
Her fate is sealed
The water torrent
Takes her away
Disappearing under
The muddy waters cold

The responder lifts
Away with the child
Once inside the trembling
His partner tries to console
He tries hard to keep control
The tears were not
Going to let it be

He looked upon the child
Thought, how would
This child consider
What has happened here
His mother died
So he could live
Why this responder
Didnt save his mother
He loved so dear

One may question
Surely, none would be
Held responsible, for all
Was done, that could be
But then, what if
It was your mother
And you the child
Would you be, so
Easy to forgive

So you see
Responders, put more
Than life and limb on the line
They put their heart and soul

Many times, we sit and watch
As the responders, do what they do
We say, they are trained and paid
This is what, we expect of them

I think, when one does these deeds
One gives his heart and soul
In a very special way
Only hopes, he can do, with
Honor, what has to be done

Whether, it is fireman
Policeman or a mere man
On the street
FIRST RESPONDERS
It makes no difference
From whatever source
The courage within
When called upon
All are the heros of

THE FIRST RESPONDERS

THANK GOD FOR THEM

You have clearance
I'm sure
to know such
firsthand.

Thank you!

Sure do thank God for them!  They are such selfless people to do this work.  Heros in every way, humbling themselves in life threatening rescues.  Nice poem.

God bless,
   Rae
