Out Making Anticlines

Mother

another shapeless night

silhouette at the door
see him stare
know by her shadow
too late

see him hate that it rises
knowing
hate it anyway heedless
too late

think too late of a closet
in a hopeless what-if
hate the rising burning
too late

in the dark
soft cloth whispers expectant
hide in pretend sleep
too late

bat so afternoon brave
under the bed
so far away now
too late

touches almost shy
but the silent scream
that came too late
too late

this shapeless night

It is a sad commentary on our world... that so many know this nightmare... You have written the shapeless night with spine-tingling perfection.

Again, I dreamed
I saw your face
But not a trace
Of approval for me
Softened the lines
Or teased forth a smile
Angry, the lash
Slices still
Across the years
And countless tears
Leave me baffled
As the child I was -
What did I do wrong?

shapeless nights have many forms
