Three Coins

Three coins nestled deep..saved for the last
When  hunger would grip him during this fast
Three coins safe forever until he did seek
One last cold morsel,  Oh Lord this is bleak.

Three coins left behind beside an old hat
whose brim was so crooked, sweat stained and flat.
With sadness he left there what they had once held,
Three coins in one bottle as funeral bells knelled.

For each one did tell of a time both had shared,
when coins in one bottle were more than they cared
and triplets were given for a mother to mold
with three shiny coins, once silver...now gold.

Your poems of love should be the pages of a romance novel. Your poems of the macabre would put Poe to shame. Your poems on the Wild West would do John Wayne proud. ~ and to think I get to read them all free at PiP!

Linda....oh, with remarks like that, perhaps
a fire shall burn again within the hearth
and my muse will awaken once again.

The Lady...you are always most gracious in
your thoughts, much appreciated...

Dix,  U are a dear!  always will be, thank
you.

A beautiful ballad, dear Barry. Your sensitive heart captures so much in as little as three coins ... you dig deep into the characters.

Love,
Margherita
