Death is in the air,
the familiar scent
of a friend gone for a while,
do you smell it?
Here for me?
Here for you?
It is the natural winding down of life,
the deep and joyful rest,
the door to reconnectedness
beyond which lie our new beginnings
and I sense a deep finality
as if Death awaits without temerity
to receive its tithe and due,
with the patience of eternity
to welcome all within its reach
each and everyone to share its bounty.

icebox

I feel I haven't finished here yet, having just brushed past death and found life again so refreshed...I know death is around every bodies bend, but for now I have so much more living to do.  I wish you peace.

and people here have Charon confused with ice cream truck...and, well? Maybe it IS.

I understand it's all very personal. (That's what they said about Death in Beetlejuice anyhow. )

c'mere you

So many poems have addressed death, but I don't think I've ever read one like this.  Had never really thought of the process like a fountain, or a wishing well...interesting thought.    *smiles*.......jo

Dear Box of Ice, this was a remarkable poem on the subject of DEATH.

My favourite lines were

"It is the natural winding down of life,
the deep and joyful rest,
the door to reconnectedness"

Charlie thanks so much for your honesty here in the blue pages. You cause all of us to think. I think you are a professor, and I sure wish I had been able to sit by your feet and learn from you,  years ago…..

Sadly I know too many now who are praying for release. Plus a few who are determined to live each day through and smile softly; some who are plodding along without a care. I guess because they never did figure it all out. I see people living their last days somewhat the way they lived their good ones. Except those few who are afraid of death. I guess they always wore a bit of that around their collar. We are all of a kind and yet so different on our take on life. Some are so determined to now make each good moment count and do what ever they can to help it be. Others seem to be scrambling because they are not sure what they are to do or how they are to live these last days remaining.  I surmise they never did find the way. Whether it is a few days or weeks or years. None of us really know. I will put on the happy face and try to work it out. What I am saying I guess is most of us find our character while very young and do not seem to change too much over the years.
respect to you, martyjo
