In a state of disrepair...

I was happy once.
I don't know quite how
that optimist glow
happened to snap
a long decade ago.
Perhaps it was that
cliche filled soul

I have faith in nothing.
If I believed in a god
perhaps stardust
or anything much
I would have cut
deep to the core
a heap on the floor

I hate this decay.
So I will try today
as I tried yesterday
and I never can weigh
why my hand sways
from delivering kiss
of my nihilist wish.

Death looks like love when enough is enough
and so that is the wage I hope I can pay

Those were the words I will never say

"The world won't end in darkness, it'll end in family fun
With Coca Cola clouds behind a Big Mac sun."

One God by The Beautiful South
