back roads are candy lanes
with colors too useless for night
but so are eye lids

on coyotes watching headlights
from their dare way in the highway
before the die way claims their fur

and the sky is emptier too
without their howls that wound quiet
with a shiver edged blade

old metal is the healer then
to the bone man in leather
and to the swallows of silence

that fly as blind doves searching
for just a taste of the metal song
to give them directions to dawn

before they know the fear of being lost

I think, truly,
this is why I swerve.

'morning, Sir.

Is the dark brew hot enough
this morning?

I have a favorite part, too!

But in truth, it starts some lines before the ones quoted, and ends just above your final signature in blue.

sign me,
impressed
yet again.

DS

In the shadow
cast by last night’s moon
a song that was coyote born
dropped in requiem
across the valley
touching a strand of trees

Touching me

Thanks for reminding me

I almost feel like I am taking a hot bath when I read your poetry.  It soothes me and takes me beyond where I am at this moment.  And, the words flow like warm water over my senses.
