Heart of Stone

How many times I tried to say
The perfect words to make you stay.
How long I labored through the night
To comfort you, to make things right,
Until the break of every day.

Yet still you chose to go alone,
Despite entreaties on the phone
To ask you to come back again
--Without a promise as to when!--
But still your heart was hard as stone.

And so I sit here as a shell,
My lonely heart each night to dwell,
While pondering so deep and long
Would understand where I went wrong
And pick my heart up where it fell.

Pinky: Gee, Brain, what are we going to do tonight?
Brain: The same thing we do every night, Pinky: try to take over the world!

Thanks, TD.

That was one of those, "Oh, woe is me!", late night poems.

good one been there many times

i learnt this in life things you can't control somethings just arent ment to happen or be no matter how much we touture ourselves with trying to find the answer where there is no real answer to the questions we want answered so dearly.

Fool me once shame on you.....Fool me twice shame on me.....

Hi, Foxyoasis

Haven't we all (well, most of us anyhow!).  Yes, it's the old, "If you love something, set it free..."

Thanks for writing!

Yes, you do write "woe" very well but strange how the heart jumps up from where it fell in its own good time!  It cannot be hurried.

Being one to keep to my word, I did go looking.

Being one who rarely comments inaccurately, I reitierate what I said before. You are indeed skilled.

This melts my heart.

Hi, Honeybunch.

So true.  But my last line more alluded to moving on with LIFE, as opposed to love.  As you say, love will come when it will come...without any effort on our part.

Thanks for your response!

Hi, Sandra.

How very kind of you to say so.  I do enjoy it when someone is touched by what I have written.

Thanks for being so hard working and honest.
