girl
i wasn’t askin’ for  much
really
just his wake up kiss
to put itself on my lips
his morning voice in my ear
i really just wanted his hand
to grab mine
drag me gigglin’
feet first in love
past the bodega
where the old lady sits
sippin’ up morning
that wiry dog beside her
past the fine young things
on the corner
eyein’ him
past the palms
and purple lantanas
the brothas
doin’ the dozens
i just wanted him
to make me run so fast
i couldn’t breathe
so fast doubt couldn’t catch me
so fast he couldn’t get in front of me
you know
you can’t leave a woman from behind

i’m talkin’ ‘bout
that’s all I wanted

now girl
was that askin’ too much
really?

Lady....No, you can't leave a woman from behind !  Such freshness is a pleasure to read and you seem to do it every time and so easily.

"...so fast doubt couldn’t catch me..."

Now, there is a line....

And ....um... "not really..."

CG

P.S. Thanks for the Nikki Giovanni reference...have been reading some of her poetry...excellent.

I saw this at around O:dark-thirty this morning and knew from the title alone that I would be in for a treat.

May I hang with you?

I'll even cook, if you let me read ALL of your poetry, and duet with you.

Quickly becoming one of my fave first reads...even if it is later in the day.

Fantastic!  Your writing is so fresh,
and something about it grabs at me from the git go.
Love it!!  More please.

There is no style that you simply do NOT grab hold of and make your own.

A wonder, this Lady is.

Stranger darlin’
it’s so lovely to linger
and dance
in a gown of pen
thank you…

yes
hang with me Karilea
you don’t need to cook
I’ve got apples
we can write and write
and then we can write some more…

Nancy
you say the sweetest things
thank you
hugs to you

Sandra
you encourage me
today I was wondering
why I don’t have a style of my own
and you read my mind
thank you
my friend...
