Thoughts of sleep nestle in my brain I hear my bed calling out my name I look around and see a lot of chores Then my eyes linger at the bedroom door I know my pillow cradles my book I could just hold it and take a look The words beckon me with invitation My excuse could be sleep deprivation Then I could curl up among the covers high Two cats at my feet and dogs against each thigh It would be so nice to look up at the sun Gazing out the window until sleep won A little afternoon nap would be so nice My bedroom and book do so entice Just a bit of time to read and rest I think my will power is being put to test So away I’ll go and get my jobs done Call my young friends for baking cookie fun And later on when the sun sinks low I’ll succumb to desire and to bed I’ll go My book will be there still waiting for me I’ll lean back and together we will read.
