dawn in the desert for Sunshine Praised be You my Lord with all Your creatures, especially Sir Brother Sun ~from The Canticle of Brother Sun Saint Francis of Assisi gunmetal ceiling parts in measured pace gold seeps onto red earthwork in warm embrace crag red rocks accept grace valley floor sanctified with pure light breathes morning his little brethren birds soar on dawn wings playing tag with motes cactus stretches lays shadow of saint francis naked on the ground with faith desert soul surrenders to this day _______________ In the early evening of October 3, 1226, death came for Saint Francis. He had asked to be laid naked on the ground "for as long as it takes to walk a mile unhurriedly," so that he could meet his Creator as he had entered the world…with nothing. As if to announce his entry into eternal life, a flock of sky larks flew over his still warm body. |
