Message in a Bottle
(My Dearest Love)

If time and circumstance did not keep us apart,
to what heights would our love have climbed?
I feel you in each beat of my heart as I lie in bed,
waiting for dreams of you to overtake me,
or in the quiet moments when my vision is dimmed
to that wistful place where beautiful memories reside,
remembering the loveliness of your very essence.

Life is not always fair, but as long as I breathe
it is always there, reminding me of my loss.
However, it is up to me to keep living my life,
even if this means that I must continue on without you.
Oh! How my spirit cries at night,
wishing even beyond the span of Heaven,
that I might be granted a single, precious day
to hold you in my arms.
But that can never be.

Even so, I have a cherished, recurrent daydream
in which I see you coming up my walkway,
beaming with that radiant smile of yours,
born as of a thousand suns.
You say nothing,
only embrace me with a breathtaking hug
that would cut through the mists of time and space,
to elevate us both to a kingdom of clouds,
where we would rule for but a moment,
but which would be as an eternity.

My Dearest Love,
I would forsake my remaining years, and even life itself,
if I was assured that you and I could be together
for that magical day, lost in our kingdom of clouds.
And if you would join me,
as the sun set for the last time,
would you claim my soul,
placing it in the palm of your hand,
and carrying it with you forever?
For I would have no more need of it,
as my body would consume itself,
as in the flames of a Phoenix,
to be purged,
to be cleansed,
to be reborn in another age and place,
where perhaps we would once more be together.

This is my dream and nothing more.
So long have I waited for the end of my time,
when this dream may come to pass.
For who knows what Heaven holds in store,
but that a loving God would surely reunite two lost souls
in the chartless depths of a love that would stretch
ten times ten thousand lifetimes,
and outshine the brightest star.

Pinky: Gee, Brain, what are we going to do tonight?
Brain: The same thing we do every night, Pinky: try to take over the world!

The heaven's give flight to infinite feelings.  The depths of one's soul flies free in dreams, healing the wishes of the heart.
You have a wonderful style in your writing.
One I certainly enjoy reading.
The message in a bottle is guided to the hand that can appreciate the effort made.

JL....Your title caught me...it has such a romantic feel I've used it myself.  Your poem also has that romantic ache of a great love gone, yet lasting forever.  You captured the feeling the title was meant for.

Hi, TD.

Thanks for the wonderful comments.

"The heaven's give flight to infinite feelings.  The depths of one's soul flies free in dreams, healing the wishes of the heart."

That is true, as I was writing about a lost love...

Hi, Nancy.

I was hoping that the longing would translate well to the page, so thank you for saying that it did.  Love is a great motivator for poems and songs!

Hi, Martie.

The funny part was that originally I was writing an actual "note in a bottle" as a sort of cathartic release.  The problem?  I live 150 miles from the beach!  S-o-o-o-o, it goes online.  Aren't you lucky?!

Hi, Marge.

I'm so glad that YOU liked my little write.  If anyone knows how to write about love, it's you.

And I agree; we might have known each other ten times ten thousand lifetimes...

PS: I read your poem--very beautiful.  I left you a little message saying as much. *blows kiss*

Hi John again  I live about 50 miles from the ocean, but don't get there as often as I'd like.  I've always wanted to put a note in a bottle though.  Glad you posted yours here instead..much easier to find.

Thanks, TL.  And thatnk again, Martie!

I am really glad that people are enjoying this one, as it was from a deep sense of longing for an "ex."  I can't hate.  I can only love...

Thanks again, Martie!

As I just said, "I can't hate.  I can only love..."  I'm happier that way...
