My life style is not same as the one’s who live in the hood,
No gun shot wound or broken light bulbs in my house,
But the pain in my life can relate to the thugs in the street,

No fairy tales, just working late at night,
Making enough to pay the mortgage, and puttin kids through school,
Hoping that they can earn better and take care of me in the future,

Just look at me, against some odds in life, I’m makin in through,
Stuck in a cubicle, five days a week, staring at this screen,
Only seeing the sun rise and sometimes when it sets,

I often think that this life is better than what I had in the past,
When I was crying because my momma use to hit me hard,
For wanting things every little six year ol’ boy would want,

But I don’t blame my momma for the pain I lived through the past,
At least my mind was clear, focused on one thing,
Living life day in and day out, that’s all I pictured,

Fast forward this life twenty odd years, and now I got lot’s more,
But each day, it seems as if life keeps getting worse,
More things to worry about, slave to this society,
Why did I grow up and lose my sanity?

Wanting things that only takes me away from the simplest of smiles,
And now all we look forward to are due dates and deadlines,
But don’t worry, just when you realize this, go on and read this poem twice,
You’ll definitely can think back and picture your smiles,

Lost in this material world,
Dreaming of wealth,
Just not enough time to enjoy it.
That’s all I’m saying…

I speak insanity. I write fantasy. I sleep reality.

It is always a joy to read your poems. Sad write though.  I often feel that way as well.
