I bear your scars upon my heart,
In case I should forget.
Forget how forever lasted only
As long as the turning of the Autumn leaves,
And how eternity was borne away
By white horses on the tide.

I keep your words inside my head,
In case I should forget.
Forget how you told me that
I'd never face the ghosts of my past alone,
And how fear's iced embrace
Would never claim my soul.

I see your smile in every cloud,
In case I should forget.
Forget how fragile I was when
You tore at the thorns that pierced my flesh,
And made porcelain promises
That lie in shards on the floor.

I keep your lies in my tears,
In case I should forget.
Forget an imaginary smile
That was able to bring light to the shadows,
And how cold truth severed
The rusting chains of a once strong bond.

I keep you locked in the dark,
In case I should remember.
Remember how I loved
A dream that was never mine.

But what you had, you had. I love the lyric quality of this one. It brings to mind that we never love others, only our idea of them. We live in a world made of reflections.
