Cool Babe,
Insulatin' me;
I am the beverage,
You are my grief.

You keep me cool
When I am not-
When almost temper seeps;
You hold me tight
When I am loose-
When emotion more than creeps!

Shelf life is much different for
Liquid and Styrofoam,
Years of deterioration before
Permanent, you make your home.
Through milleniums,
You'll rest alone.

    ~misc

I guess this is my love/hate relation about my/our continued use of styrofoam.  For our convenience, we use it.  It will be in the landfills, how long?

I'm with you on this - I use it all the while knowing washing my cup is better.

Nice writing...hope it all stays in the landfills and doesn't attack us...I was reading how some carry their own bags to the grocery store and I suppose we could take our own cups in some cases...James

Copperbell, Martie, and James Michael,

   Glad I/m not alone on the issue, but sure wish we could kick the habit.  Many schools use styrofoam plates and bowls on a DAILY basis.  It tends to send mixed messages to children when discussing environmental issues!  (I know they do this to save time, especially when there are large volumes of children passing through lunchlines in a limited number of minutes. Still, I think there has to be a better way...)  OK, I'll get off my soap box and pass it to someone else...

Thank you for your responses.

Read this one earlier.  C. what I like about your writing is you are always creative.  I can see where your art training is beginning to come out, as well, as evidenced by the corn field poem, which was very visual for me.  *hugs*...jo

It truly does boggle the mind the amount of non-biodegradable products that go into landfills. I try my best to minimize my own usage ~ but I know I could do better! ~ and your poem has spurred me on to do just that! Thanks! I needed that!

As per usual, Misc C, I enjoyed the spill from thy quill!

Sending a hug-o-love,
Linda
