She turned around and looked
At him over her shoulder
He smiled and tried to hide
The tears that were welling
At the corners of his eyes.

He looked at the back of her head
as she turned the lock
Of her apartment door
and the tears finally broke free
to slide down his hot face.

He watched as she disappeared
Into the darkness within
Then whispered goodbye
As he turned on the steps
And made his way back to the street.

I brushed aside a teardrop
That clung to the end of my nose
And I held up my hand, hailing a taxi
Then looked one last time behind me
At a young couple that had come to the end
of their journey together.

Never be a carbon copy of anybody...make your own impressions.  - ANON.
