Sassafras From A Ruby Lip

Might I misbehave?
In the spirit of a wild child
Free, to be me

At my soul,
I am the deep cool green
Summer grass and crystal clear, the water clean

Just as crisp in the colors of fall
As soft in sweet meadow winds et all
For timelessness is quietness

Who I am, is not discerned by title or degree
Make it simple, in the open
All a woman has to be

I see romance differently
A birthday dance sequentially
...In the moonlight
......In the living room
.........In the raw of tender conversation
That was a giggle
From the front lawn in evening’s anticipation
Catching fireflies, watching heaven change

A peeper of some sort, draped in shadows strange
Took note of that, did you?
Aurora, or the shades of shooting stars unveiled

Free verse is how I wish to live
Catching fish, and learning ways to listen
Intense my questions come, in firelight’s glisten
And yet…
A true affection, not just some pale reflection
All the emotional hold security brings
Provocative, the low cut dinner dress, French heels nonetheless
But after, I will carry them, barefoot in the surf of a sunset beach

Is that your hand for which I reach?
Perhaps just spice, a pleasant dream can be so nice
To linger, all you’ve got upon the spell I cast
Give me something meant to last…for I am far from sport
Look again, in kind retort…no root beer float could be
As much of sassafras is me

This gives me the inclination to drop a
bomb or two...(poetic bomb).....and rewrite
the way sassafrasssssss is spelled into
some other more memorable words....

Truth... sheesh, this is an excellent self
portrait...well done Kiddo.

WOW!!  Outstanding write Kathleen..
I was going to quote my favourite lines,
but I would have ended up with the entire piece here.
Most excellent indeed!
