Diamonds, Gold and Precious Stones

He held her under a moonlit sky,
As heart to heart stood still;
A poor boy of a common folk,
A girl of beauty's will.

He loved her more than life itself;
Him she yearned to wed -
But in his heart a doubtful twinge,
As this to her he said:

"I have no gold, no precious stones,
No diamonds for your ear;
I offer but love everlasting,
Sealed in a crystal tear."

Her love was pure and absolute,
Not to be denied -
She smiled and pressed his hand to heart,
To him she thus replied:

"The diamonds may the ears adorn,
Bring only envy sighs -
But each time with love you look at me,
They glimmer in your eyes."

"A golden band a finger wraps;
A necklace neck will keep -
But your loving arms around my whole
Will soothe me when I weep."

"The precious stones of colors bright -
One by one I claim;
Each day in love I spend with you,
Within my heart I frame."

A poor boy of a common folk,
A girl of beauty's will;
In love they lived their earthly days -
Their treasure chest did fill.
