nos dos unieron
we two were united
para dejar uno perdido
in order to leave one lost

in bare feet
and little else
I leave for Spain
where I beg providence
hide me
from that which I have lost

down quiet corridors
through smells of
citrus and olive
hands grazing
damp
ladrillo rojo
black wrought iron railings
to mute plaza

Murillo child
in faded red apron
green grapes overflowing basket
counts coins I give her
in palm of her hand

I sit
licking grape juice
from silent fingers
hiding
watching
past life cuts

when the king arrives
I shall rise
and pay homage
con mucho amor
y pérdida

I was almost about to click out of this when I saw that language that I flunked out of in high school but I'm glad I read through

I attended Father Guido Sarducci's
Five Minute University
where I learned
"¿Como está usted?" and
"muy bien."
that's it...
thanks for reading

Nicely done Kate,
and, I had a few years of Spanish
but remember very little anymore
and have to referance translation dictionaries when I even attempt it
anymore, funny, it still doesn't sound
quite the same as when Senor Becker spoke it though...  Enjoyed your verse here. Hugs
