In a state of disrepair...

0 posted 2006-09-29 08:08 AM

It feels as if my life is
the shuffle of a dying light
across the window into
a memory of elsewhere
when I was...

The party's primary glare.
The guru of the art of flair.
The only unmatched stare,
I glittered here and there.

The friend of a friend so easily found.
Longest hair and the easiest frown.
I poured the shots, saw them downed,
called the song then chose the sound

I wrapped the world around one finger
and laughed while it sat and begged,
while all of the highs seemed to linger
and no dream of the id left unfed.

It seems that so unstable a land,
not founded against times twisting
crumbled as a castle made of sand.
My kingdom of mirrors died misting.

Then I left myself with nothing
but a memory that remains
I watch the young for something
but all I feel is that old pain

I am left older than my years,
a dozen decades on my peers
and too bitter to find the tears
when the past struts and leers.

Better became the same as worse
now I know it's but an earlier verse
and passing time has birthed a curse
that makes a calendar my hearse

I feel that my life is
the echo of a dying breath
across one last word into
a moment of decay
when I will be
at peace.

LT, this touches deeply

I too love the sad poems and have written too many in my life...I write happy ones now, but the book is not finished.

I'm glad this came up to the top or I may have missed it

Oh.... ouch. The lines between may be your own... but the first and last verses reflect so many... and so well. *S*
