In the darkest hours of midnite
when a northern night light did shine
over a frozen valley
my new found friends the meandering moose
stared back at me
as I wandered the woods in wonderment
wondering why I wandered in wonder each night.

But to tell the truth?
Even my companion the rainbow dancing lights
did not always provide a sufficient glow
to mask the dirty deeds I did see below
the freeze-thaw lines of demarcation
that seem to forever stand between
the frozen hearts of humans.

But then again?
Whenever I danced within the shadows
of Aurora’s brilliant lights
I saw my own reflection...
taunting, cajoling reality,
sometimes cursing sometimes thanking,
reflecting all that was my past, my present,
teasing me into the future.

And oh, I did wander and wonder.
Is there a future to quest?
I asked my meandering moose,
Moosatchie and Willow, my adopted twins
of the northernmost frozen woods
(no Boggledy Woods, mind you)
as at the height of a winter solstice night
I crept ‘neath whispering willows,
frozen like some giant Popsicle sticks
meant to be savored as dessert
waitng to be licked by
a wanderer's mind in tomorrows desert
while frozen toes and hands did splay themselves
on sheets of ice and snow,
but oh, you know the whispers
were as cold to a finger’s touch
as they were warming to the heart.

But then, some whispers are left behind,
to be told perhaps some day by some other chickadee.
