Native-Born Bare Feet

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

It's almost midnight in Florida now
and I am finding that I sorely miss
the feeling of native-born bare feet
that greet a Kansas night's cool kiss.

I reminisce the fireflies
and waking to the testing
of the town's tornado sirens
while Kansas clouds were resting.

It was all a different world up there,
lungs filled full with midwest air,
crisp and clean, no salty smell,
these are things I'll remember well.

Surely, it was a fine retreat,
the chill on native-born bare feet...
but how good it is to be back home,
till again I get the urge to roam.

.

I was born on October 4, 1980, at the top of the airstairs of a Boeing 737 jet that had just landed at Orange County/Santa Ana Airport (which was later reborn itself, and named for John Wayne).

I learned to walk by taking my first steps, down those stairs...after saying my first words, which were "Where have I been all my life?!?"

The situation is reversed, but I understand this poem completely.

Where we reside is one subject, where our mind takes us for comfort, well, that is home. Astounding work.

I realized that I have never met anyone from Kansas that I know of.  You make me want to go there - hear the tornado sirens and breathe in the air.

Indeed Kate, there's no place like home. Thank you

aziza, it's a beautiful place, though I never got to see any of the sites that Kansas is known for...even missed the arch when I was going through St. Louis, but it's okay. I just enjoyed the sitting and relaxing there.

I have never seen the places...I am sure
that many others have, and they carry some
great memories...
