An idol of all that has ever been
adorned with the diamonds of many recalls
stands in my way and chants every day
“Hold them – let go, hold them – let go”
until the breath on the point of death.

I spar, cajole, negotiate, talk,
I beg and plead, say, “Take them away”
but the move, be still, grow, suffer, exhale,
can’t discard and dispel the need
for that schedule five drug
of memory.

‘tis witchcraft and voodoo spun and rolled one
that binds past times to these present days
and a love dependency, see
that keeps them alive
in a biodegradable pickle jar mind
sealed with a twist of fate.

Beware, beware, of the pressure within
for it bursts at the stroke of midnight
and I am on count because I believe …
diamonds are not a girl’s best friend!

Martie - and pickles are sweet and sour just like memory. To stir a thought in you is to create greatness and I'm honoured to  have a small part therein.

In some cases, I would most certainly agree, dear Helen.  Good rant, too.  I think the exception is when we buy them for ourselves and they are not gifts or trades.  *hugs*.....jo
