Listening to every heart

In the Month of Long Shadows

There should come a time to all kind,
when one’s senses overtake
and one should stand, complete,
when the coming of the month
of long shadows
plays out its victories of seasonal turns,
that a soft, wrenching sound should be felt.

There is, for want of better words, a timing
that would wring the soul
of births, deaths, happiness and sorrows…
when tears are needed
to remind us, we live!…

so it becomes just, pure, and then, it is,
that

September deems to be such a time,
standing numerically pregnant on a skinny leg
waiting to let something of seed            fall            and linger,
that the birds might have a morsel,

then travel down to earth, to burrow, not for sake
of hiding, but to carry secrets, and be soiled
in hope.

In the month of long shadows, it
should come.  It, being an awareness
of all that one has worked for, harvested
and reaped, then stored up for winter’s sharing.

In the month of long shadows,
memories should come.  They, being a sound
that echoes deep within the sinews
of elderly or young…it should be felt like some
long gone strain of the sweetest violin,
the grandest tone of a piano’s come,
yet lilt upward into blue air like some soft crystal tinkle of
brilliant chandeliers that gives one
the thought that to look higher still,
seems absurd,
for it is all around us, this measuring tone,
this feel of roots planted, yet arms stretched heavenward,
reaching for this very particular, peculiar, yet
parsimonious moment.
For it may only last but a blink of time,
a breath in space,
in a wisp,
seized.

In the month of long shadows
some only think ahead to a long winter,
not giving a tick’s note to some serene softening of air
before great and grand glorious attention comes
bringing brilliant colors and
arrives, without pretense.

In this expectant time, when quicksilver moments
gain new insight,
when some piece of long ago music
seems new again,
when hope become flush with anticipation,
and one perceives beyond winter’s ice
with childhood eagerness,
into some morrow,

This
is what makes September love,
in the giving time, remembering keen some
silences so smooth and harmonious;

this, is what comes, when one hearkens to a
month of long shadows.

Love these lines.
September is a lucky month to have been the time when Martie was born.  A beautiful tribute.  Ken

~ One of the numerological significances of September being the 9th month is that of completing a cycle and reaping the harvest of one's efforts.

Lovely month! Lovely poem! Lovely you! Lovely Martie!

Sissie

You already know I love this time of transition and harvest, not only because it is my birth month, but because it holds a feeling of completion, of deep breaths without the longing of spring, passing forward what was gained.  Thank you for including me within this special poem and time.

Thank you for bringing this moment of celebration to us.  It seems so difficult any more to allow ourselves the breathing time appreciate all that whispers around us.

You have such a keen eye, Karilea!  Thanks again for sharing.

Also, loved the picture of Martie.  You and that camera... I always enjoy the  pictures you share on your thread.
