Listening to every heart

Spanish Moss

Deep, buried deep in dark, dank, ground
musty leaves and Spanish moss drooping down,
a treasured chest, buried alone, call it home,
buried deep down, where thoughts ne’er roam.

Within cavernous wood and green ironed lock
lies undisturbed pink silk, some young girl’s frock,
amidst linen doll, ball of yarn, sad, lonesome key;
lies deep, dark, dank, the hidden heart of thee.

With the razing of the land, hands uncover
treasured chest, left alone after loss of lover;
discounted, forgotten moments unburied now
come again to grips with sunlight’s vow.

For sunlight saw forbidden love high above,
fallen tears, rambled curses, treasured chest shoved
deep, buried deep down, dark, dank, ground
musty leaves and Spanish moss drooping down.

Perhaps a hundred or more years ago
a lover loved, lost, despaired so;
then treasured chest carried there
once buried deep, dark, bereft of air;

…with only Spanish moss to mourn.

Sissie...you do see behind and under....even time.  This felt like my hands within the dirt right after rain.

A hundred years....perhaps a start
to heal the loss of a lover’s heart.
A hundred years won’t pale the rage
or ease the hurt, nor yet assuage,

but deeper time this heart would need,
if ever to be fully freed;
no silk could soothe away the tears,
nor any time expressed in years.

So like this verse, so quickly gone
when love would wish it to go on,
never by ink imprisoned be,
let eyes behold, and set it free.

Which is to say, this truly deserves a bump....and shall have it!

and they say, time heals all wounds, I believe it...and this, is so perfectely written, and felt...lovely but bittersweet poem....

discounted, forgotten moments unburied now
come again to grips with sunlight’s vow.

fallen tears, rambled curses, treasured chest shoved

deep, buried deep down, dark, dank, ground
musty leaves and Spanish moss drooping down.

Wow...what an ending...your poetry speaks volumes to me. Hard to describe how though.
