Guardian Of The Keep

Ten weeks old, with golden hair and tummy big and round
The master now depends on you to guard this sacred ground
The backyard realm’s enormous with its grasses tall and deep
And none had better challenge the guardian of the keep

This outside world’s a wonderland for a curious little nose
You fight a vicious battle with that deadly garden hose
Find a place to hide your bone and forget where it is at
Or hide under the bushes from that mean old snobbish cat

Chase your rubber ball and then, what is that you see?
Your flowerbed’s been invaded by an awful buzzing bee
How dare it have the nerve to fly into your keep today
You bravely move in to attack and bark it right away

A sudden noise brings panic and then causes great alarm
Something from beneath the ground has come to do you harm
What is that terrible sound you hear that interrupts your play?
The horrible sprinkler’s come again with its nasty water spray

To the safety of your puppy bed on stumbling paws you run
The hose is dead, the bee is gone, your work today is done
So now it’s time for a weary little puppy head to sleep
And none had better awaken the guardian of the keep

And now I picture in my mind, all those dogs who safely grind
and keeping them, their masters be, asleep, and one, in safe mind;
Who knew it was so tough a job, this reason that we should be?
Guardian dogs who bespeak their mind! BARK! for all men free!

It's about time our canine keepers get a little recognition for their complete dedication to their duties! We tend to take for granted our safety and security without recognizing the hard work daily displayed by our masterful mutts....good work!
