.

One by lost one,
thread by shopworn thread,
depleting by degrees
the finite,
I feel you shedding images
of me,
and you,
and we two
as us.

Just as muscle memories
keep the body from falling
through step after awkward step,
just as brainstem habits
force lungs more dead than alive
to cling to the hope of breathing,
the heart binds threads of love
long after logic demurs,
until
in time
it stops.

Sir Box of Ice ~

I found myself winding down with your vividly descriptive words of a dying love.

Felt this to the core. I have been there. Thankfully, I'm where I'm at now! There is life after the death of a love relationship! ~ and at any age!

Loving hug,
EA

After spending some time in the past six years trying wrap my brain around the concept of death and loss--this is absolutely one of the best poems I have read regarding what I have now  termed the "deathwatch"--that would be when people die slow, as opposed to nauseating shocks I have had when people I knew died very quickly. Or maybe I just got the news very quickly, eh? On any account, read literally, this is so real. Read metaphorically, it is just as real, but can be applied to just about anything the reader would like it to be--just as fine poetry should.

On another note, it also makes me constant state of "tired" a frightening thing too.

So...hugs, sweetheart.

You are, without a doubt, in my top five favorite Pip poets, and have been from the first poem you ever posted.

Wow !   From dying love...to the "subtle" ways of the reptilian brain.  So many corners to explore.
An astounding piece of work !

icebox - such a sad poem but I suppose more particularly because I can relate so very well.  Those threads of love are pretty damn useless when the mind (logic) wages battle.  I've missed your words here lately.

The levels you reach when you write are often times so much deeper than the usual read is.  And, it's not even what you say, but how you express it that really rocks my mind.  and? thats a good thing.

Truly, enjoyed this fine piece of work
and will only add, a quiet amen to what K said.  Brava.

I'm reminded of the lyrics "I know nothing stays the same"..can't remember who wrote or sang it or the rest of the words.  Your poem so poignantly reminds me of loss and the ache of time's changes.

Martie...that song is by Carly Simon I think. Coming Around Again is the name. It was on a movie but I can't remember which one though I know it was a darn good movie.

I know nothing stays the same
but if you're willing to play the game,
it will be coming around again

I believe in love
who knows where or when
but it's coming around again

good song...thanks for the reminder
