The magic of the metaphor
finds the purpose of its being
a useless entity
on this current lie of land
that once wrought mystery.

See where the birds fly free?
Imagine it is mind
and the sea the restless spirit
of all we are inside ~
and the corners, the corners,
a supernatural turn
into the knowing.

A glass of wine is only time
moving to the side
and dropping down inside
the beauty of a smile ~
and in the weave of stories
the recreation of a dream
known to be a sign
on the many roads to soul.

Oh, I see the tress
shed leaves beneath my feet
and know I have to overstep
the untenable ~
and the topple of my soapbox
a hiccup to make me swallow
the think, think again.

Take my name, your name,
and this current lie of land
into the imagining
of resurgent mystery
and then tell me – are they metaphors,
the metaphors of love?

I don't know the answer, Helen, but I do like this especially:

"A glass of wine is only time
moving to the side
and dropping down inside
the beauty of a smile ~"

Very nice.

I bought my share of mistakes so I might see some interest.

Chanson - How nice to see you here!  Thank you for reading and as for answers - well, "life", I suppose, could be a metaphor for "riddle".

Helen, good morning

wish there were one answer, but I believe one much search one's heart to find peace with the question

especially loved this...

Oh, I see the tress
shed leaves beneath my feet
and know I have to overstep
the untenable ~
and the topple of my soapbox
a hiccup to make me swallow
the think, think again.

this really spoke to me

Helen

"A glass of wine is only time
moving to the side
and dropping down inside
the beauty of a smile" ~

A poem itself and the wine takes away time and births words more easily and a smile...for me.

LeeJ and Martie - thank you so much for the read!  Time is adept at moving most things aside ... except love, of course!
