standing in the doorway
silently I smile
watching the world
one breath at a time
peaceful, serene
smiling
innocent
content with life
how could I leave
with all that waiting
years of happiness
still to come
the smile weakens
through knowledge
that pain will come
and so will tears
long times of lonliness
yet I must leave
I reach over to say goodbye
give her a kiss
and go to work
sometimes I wonder
if it's really worth it
over here in the sands of
ancient history
where the sand I walk on
is the same sand
that Abraham stood on
being this close to greatness
should be a good thing
yet why must my little girl cry
why do I have to be here
when the ones I want to protect
are an ocean away
yet I smile
that same smile
as the one I had when I left
because I know
the two most beautiful women
a man could ever have
are waiting for me
to come home

I feel like reaching out across the land, sea, and desert to give you a great, big, 'cool', hug, Soldier Man.

Your loving words were so heartfelt and beautifully expressed.

Be safe ~ and please continue to share your thoughts and feelings with your fellow Pipsters!

James, this is so beautifully heartfelt *smiles* but, you seem to have broken something, 'cause my eyes are leaking a bit now.

Be safe, Soldier
and thank you
for helping to keep
us safe too

Welcome back to Pip!
Please...stay safe, be well.

Now - while the leaves still dance on the wind
While the moon and the clouds come spinning
Will you whisper my name again?
Again..and again....

Thanks to all of you for your comments.  I'll be home sooner than it certainly will feel like.  Everyday, one at a time, breath in, breath out repeat.  Everything will be alright.

You have much to come home to; that is what will keep you smart and safe. Hugs to you, no more are you the desperado spirit.
