Loud and clear the Spring bell rings
to overlay the past
with a season of remembering
that nothing’s made to last
when unfocused is the mind
on the reality of heart.

Strange and cruel the movement
that disrupts heart’s precious pose
and rubs its face into the dirt
like an old and faded rose
sent to lie neglected
before life has foreclosed.

And meant it is on settled ground
that rose and sand should interweave
but, oh, how harsh the wind that blows
when earth bereft of empathy
has grown a lonely rose ~
and the rose lifts up and goes, you see
to leave the sand in aimless drift
from then into eternity.

I’m here, I’m there, compacting sand
and this when in protective mode
but the rose and I leave with the wind
when shifting sand won’t hold the pose!

All joy is fleeting.

Thank you for sharing this.

"and the rose lifts up and goes, you see

All things shift with the passing sands of time ~ but they are never truly lost.

Helen, this is another one of my favourites of your poems!

Loving hug,

Helen

The touch to the sand of the wind...it changes the pattern, but leaves a place for new footprints.  The change you see feels so sad, yet if your heart remains filled with love and light, change can be joyful.   Sorry, didn't mean to be preachy..your poem made me think, as yours always do.

Thank you all so much for your kind comments. I'm wondering what we'll all do when the day of knowing comes and we won't have to think anymore.  Any ideas?

Jo - how lovely to see you here again!

Now - while the leaves still dance on the wind
While the moon and the clouds come spinning
Will you whisper my name again?
Again..and again....
