Listening to every heart

0 posted 2006-09-02 08:24 AM

Red Rivering through my Valley

Ever since dad sang the song
ever since cowboys came along
and the word “sunshine” there belonged
a kindred spirit lies there free
along the banks of a Red River Valley

As a child walking the River Kern
oft my thoughts would then go in turn
to a valley of Red, and as thoughts go
rivering along in memory just so
even sunshine makes the red
stand alone in memory’s stead

And through the music of cowboy lore
that always leaves me wanting more
I’ve traveled to many a dream-woven shore
and loved sincere from the depth of my core
as a kindred spirit lies there free
along the banks of a Red River Valley

For the music brings back my Dad’s smile
and the rivering of love he had
all to carry me through the while
eternally making my heart glad
so that even sunshine makes the red
stand alone in memory’s stead

and the memory will river along forever….

Karilea

If I whisper, will you listen?...
I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound.

Your loving thoughts and memories of your Dad brought a lump to my throat ~ especially at this time, as you know, Dear Sun.

Your pennings always touch a part of me.

Seems a day for getting in touch with the past, first Martie's read, now this.  I was born in the Red River Valley so this one I know too.

I enjoyed this piece.  My mom used to sing, "The Red River Valley" and this reminded me.  I'll bet you were the sunshine of your dad's being.

   God bless

wow

this was a really good poem that had such awesome power and love put in to it.  it sang a song all on it's own.  it was slow and haunted at first and gradually warmed as it went.  I could almost hear the music.  This one is worth printing and reading for those rainy day gloomy times.
