Out of the Mist
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

While sitting on a grassy knoll,
Looking out to sea,
A little girl stepped out of the mist,
And sweetly smiled at me.

A bonnet laced with ribbons,
Crowned locks of gold so fair,
Her dress was of the finest silk,
And far beyond compare.

Her smile hinted mystery,
Her eyes belied her age.
Within their depths, I could see,
The knowing of a sage.

The flowers in her basket,
Joined the scent of nearby sea,
~Reminding me of other times,
And of another me.

She gently placed her dresden hand,
Upon my flushing face.
'Twas then I knew, that she had come,
From a far and distant place.

Pictures reeled thru’ my mind,
Of the rocky cliffs of Dover,
And visions of a joyful girl,
Frolicking in clover.

Emotion overcame me,
As she looked in to my eyes.
Our souls were reunited
~As I came to realize.

I once had been the mother,
Of this precious little girl.
And in her joy of finding me,
She giggled and did twirl.

From the mome of our last parting,
Two centuries had passed.
But love had spanned, across those years,
And forever it would last.

I felt a sense of coming home,
And as my vision cleared,
I reached out arms to draw her close,
~ But she simply disappeared.

Tears began to stream my cheeks,
When I happened to see,
The flowers in the basket,
She had left behind for me.

While sitting on a grassy knoll,
Looking out to sea,
A little girl stepped out of the mist,
And sweetly smiled at me.

Love is the unifying force which integrates
one’s soul with that of another.
~ Linda L. Dowd

Linda - An unknown little girl once stepped out of a crowd to give me a most delightful hug to leave me wondering what exactly it was that she knew.  Your poem made me feel again her arms around me.  Thank you!

Oh dear, I had first read  yvetters_24, ~ Loving a Life ~  Together they were pretty sad. Had I read this first I would have read it differently and felt all misty eyed. But now..... love to you  angel one, martyjo
