The phone never rings to say it’s the end
or thunder roll by on a silver streak
but that beautiful ghost of a long lost past
came stumbling one night into my dream.

We laughed at the truth not yet known
and cried at the waste of a mind
thinking “this/that” and the “maybe”
while time ticked away a lifetime.

Now when I stop at the “what was then”
I find I am stuck with a tear
stubbornly glued to the crest of a cheek
determined to see out the years.

Oh, there’s a wipe, a swipe, and a push/pull,
but hands too small can’t hold it all
and the rest, remainder, and residue
simply refuses to fall.

When stuck with a tear on the cheek
just pray for the thunder, my friend,
and the ring, ring, ring, of the telephone
to say finally now it’s the end ~
but phones like the dead cannot speak
and thunder has no silver streak
so dream away, dream, dream, dream,
and learn to live with the feel!

I like this.

man will not himself find peace."
