When your mind looks at the pictures, on the pages of your past
It sees the trail of your decisions, and just how long their spell can last

Yesterday’s a memory, and tomorrow’s still a dream
The past cannot be altered, and the future can’t be seen

What you hear ain’t what you see, and you don’t know which to trust
You don’t want to make the choices, that in your heart you know you must

Your mind is full of questions, it’s a twisted tangled knot
You’re scared you won’t escape the trap, in which your life is caught

Is it spite or is it justice, that you seek to satisfy?
Can you really make your dreams come true? Do you have the strength to try?

And that’s only the beginning, just a teeny tiny part
Of that knot you must untangle, and the time has come to start

No one can do it for you, you must face it on your own
But just ‘cause you don’t see the army, doesn’t mean that you’re alone

You can’t distinguish friend from foe, by believing what you’re told
It’s only through their actions, that you’ll see the truth unfold

You must rise above the pressure, it’ll crush you if you don’t
You can win if you work hard enough, but it’s hopeless if you won’t

God helps those who help themselves, it certainly is true
And you can’t be true to someone else, until you’re true to you

Don’t focus on your anger, or your heartache or your fear
For as long as they consume you, your vision won’t be clear

Guilt and blame are just as useless, their home is in the past
And it’s leaving them behind you, that will make you free at last

Free to stand responsible, for the choices that you’ve made
It’s only then that you can learn, from the part that each one played

The nature of aroma, is to hide within the breeze
And the nature of a forest, is to hide within the trees

The nature of “The Answer”, is to point you to “The Book”
When all along it’s hiding, in the last place that you look

It’s hiding in your Values, and the things that you hold dear
And the moment that you find it, you’ll see it’s always been “right here”

Comfort, Strength, and Peace of Mind, all come from deep inside
And don’t forget: an honest conscience, makes an honest guide

To make the choices right for you, you must trust your truest friend
It’s that piece of God that lives in you, that “still, small voice within”

Thank you, Diamond.

Keen insight, Loper.

Love the sig, M.

Y'all are kind. I'm just another dime-a-dozen amateur at this point who can't seem to break away from my cookie-cutter rhythm-n-rhyme format. Even though the content is diverse, the form of everything I've EVER written is identical...almost like I keep putting together the exact same jig-saw puzzle picture with a whole new set of pieces. No worries, though. Until I learn to paint a different picture, I'll be ok with finding a new way to paint the same one. Can't wait to glean and grow from the words and works of the REAL poets I'm finding here. To that end, any and all constructive re-direction is welcome.

Thanks again,
G

would love to hear this poem to music, absolutely deeply felt...I must be very sensitive today...but honestly, this was a healing touch...with love written all over it...thank you for this...feels kinda like home...

Marvelous and  Very powerful. Your writing is...well...awesome. Oh and about the rhyme-rhyme style, it suits you. Hope to read more of your stuff because you are a REAL poet-at least to me.
