A Wooden Box

The air felt still within these last breaths
Summoning all my courage to say the words
Letting them fall upon the speechless eyes
Avoiding finality, on the edges of my shoulders

There are no words, nothing regretted or held in
Just an emptiness where a father’s love should have been

In the quiet of the aftermath
My thoughts write themselves just here
Uneven, choppy rhythm beseeching in its stare

Attempting comfort in the coldness of fact
Exploring my heart for the reasons that lacked
A memorial befitting her memory
Of him

Words had been sparse in affectionate traces
Her faith in my truth took the place of embraces
But for private moments that came too late
None of that matters, in the wipe of the slate

Not sadness then, but memories to fondle
Closure, without suture, without censure

A wooden box, held goldilocks within my treasure chest
We took it out and held the past, her hands these treasures rest
Though miles away, we talked about what should be put inside
And sealed her Daddy’s kisses in, with pictures side by side

And mercy made impression on my heart and spilled anew
Goodbye is but a state of mind, inside the hearts renew
And daughter, as the ribbon wound, wears out beneath your touch
I’ll be the whisper honor bound, to say you are loved much

I am proud of you in how you have handled
all of this for the past week...and I know
this poem was no cakewalk for you...but it
will be a monument for you,  for a young
daughter as well...

Your strength, soul-beauty, ~ and talent, are so beautifully illustrated in this penning, Dear TD.

I am sorry for your loss and I am wrapping my arms around you for at least some small measure of comfort.

Love & Eternal Light,
EA

Heartfelt beautiful sentiment.
