soap opera vandals

small town, ordinary life
passes the park
where homes gawk at each other
smiling at hawks circling
going in for the kill

deep dark black
crows
beady eyes with huge
out stretched wings

neighbors bearing swollen ankles
in the firelight
playing across the interior of secrets

screaming blame, like the endless
voice of sea gulls fighting over
rotting carcasses of fish

yes

those tedious classes of genealogy
allowing reason never to forget
ears pointed straight out
licking
the flesh
of coconspirators
telephones buzzing
the meaning
of real human beings
with
large ruddy hands of dark eyes
filled with a passion for blood
crusading to seize
lovers screaming in
the night
pumping rich with blood

jealous faces of the unintelligent
passes the cycle along
refusing to add up the numbers on
their own score cards
accustomed to feeding off
resentful dawns of gossip

bored laughter hangs over yesterday
morning
loneliness walks a fine line
of poisoned thrills
where tribal lore
aspires to immortality
murdering hearts
by inborn animosity
like the hunger of shame
slumping
bloodless
in the arms of fate

whose fate?
I ask, and at whose cost?
are the needles of some corrupted voice
burning deliberately
homes of mankind
until an unsatisfying taste
drives the
insignificant ones to
the sixth floor
somewhere in their minds
stripped naked by
a hunting game of hooded
and caged
ferocity
musing one person who stumbled

nothing has changed
in five hundred years?
same streets,
same parks,
different time
where sins
of the father
fall upon the son
a holy war
declared against
innocent neighbors

small town jihad,
where ordinary life
turns crippled
by the open mouths of it’s
own water fountains
    grief stricken, heart
heavy in confrontation
with feelings
innocence and trust
smashed
forever….
life changed by
some fiercly
corrupted burning passion
for gossip~
pumping hordes
of stolen mad things
into
a deadly human
companionship

trying to describe all the hundreds of loose feathers blown to the winds
by a gossiping neighbor
of which she will never ever, be able to collect and bring back

Gossip, gossip, gossip…
Pillows of a feather…  Great concept.
Enjoyed Lee J.

Your description of idle gossip is so very vivid.  We lived in a new subdivision where gossip was rampant in mothers who didn't attend to their own children or homes.  It was a living nightmare. Whispers, hurts, anger, denial, seemed the unproductive vocation for too many.

Great write!

It was no problem following this....you
have such a huge amount of knowledge and
visions...  Thanx for spreading the
wealth around.

And,  btw...she never will catch all of
those feathers.  serves her right.

Normally I don't read long poems, but those last three lines were worth it

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.
