park

the women walk in threes
and twos
their hands at ease

a man with a dog

the almost random punch and
whistle
from soccer

beyond a hedge there

she falls, running windmill
with a kite
marks her hands

no one comes

noise like a fan somewhere off
scent of sausage
oregano

she walks back on the string

quick step in threes and twos
pinks over blues
posing without cameras

a shimmer of random trees

concrete table
the man stops there
his feet dangle like swings

strides on the string, resolute

ball high behind the hedge
with backspin
sidespin, curving

they pass by in threes, twos

taller than the kite
she tugs it upright
starts again

a lunch wagon, its melody

yellow kite, pinks over blues
at ease, their laughter
her hair in the breeze, running

dog follows; the man whistes

traffic sound, kite paper sound
and the birds,
all rising

close by, the tiny lake

Ed?
Is this my Mile Square ?

If so ... you would know that I have sat the edge of that 'tiny lake' ... so many years ago ... yet the memories encircle me still~

That is so neat!  The descriptions tell the story, and leave me with the feel of having 'heard' an impressionist painting--the kind that paints the sunlight.

Almost as good as a walk in the park, without getting your feet wet, Expressive

It's been so long since I've been to a park or spent time near the water.  I can feel the easy flow of summer in your poem and the currents of life running through it like an elixir.  Lovely.

Ed,
This was wonderful to come home to after an unduly long day at work. Thank you, thank you! I took a walk, yet neglected not my duties. You are a wonder!

Thank you for this most enjoyable walk.  I'm inclined to just pick up on the "feel" of things and miss the actual details so thanks again!

I wish I could watch you just walking along... knowing your mind is taking snapshots, weaving seeming disparate scenes into a magnificent panorama. *S* But I can only applaud the results... and wait for the day your work is published. *S*

Beautiful, beautiful!!!!
