i can tell you what i'm waiting for
exactly what i want this play to turn into

a world thats gray with ice framed sills
where we're all too young
to know we're wrong
but too old to ignore
that we might be.

where we wear thick scarves
and slip on the sidewalks
clinging to coffee cups overflowing with steam
and bare lips as red as paint can get them
chattering about art thats underground above our heads.

as girls with hair that's short and bobs
and eyes without color
that gleam like marbles,
whos men drive dusty cars
with worn out tires
and sit inside apartments
with locks that never turn right into place
but overlook rivers to
later claim as magic.

i want to live where beauties exhaust on floors
or pick up boys
and carry them to life
and wait to break on beds
until another shade of day.

i want our money lost inside of heads
or at the bottom of our purses
and our values laid on tables
to survey for the hour
and hear cracked off records
that stream through clogged ears.

i want my eyes to tear and flash away
and have to shake my head and
leave someone who
i'll never be able to make myself forget.

i want to live a life that brings me to death
but makes every notch along the way
one that's well worth it.

i want the skies to be spiral hardened pearls
that swim above the heads
we've got weighted down to our toes
and the coughs that have burried themselves
tight in our chests.

i want my cheeks to be torn by the frost
and iced a sheer pink
and your chin to be shadowed
by huddled shoulders
as smoke pours from our mouths into air.
