Lumpy Oatmeal makes me Crazy!

0 posted 2006-08-12 01:36 AM

An old, gray board covered in moss and spruce cones
Lay on gnarled tree roots abandoned and alone
Who would wonder why it was left there
Who would notice and who would care?
....
A woman came upon it and fell to her knees
She dusted the board lightly with a white cotton sleeve
A tear slid slowly down a wind burned cheek
If she listened she could almost hear the children speak
....
Two small girls with dancing eyes and long braids
Once slipped into the damp, wooded spruce glade
In whispered voices, they laid out simple treasures
All for fairies to buy for their own fairy pleasures
Here a thimble held snugly in one tightly closed fist
The older girl scanned over her list
A cup without a tea set, an empty spool of thread
A box once filled with matches, now a perfect fairy bed
They brought out plastic houses of bright red and green
The rest of the Monopoly game gone to places unseen
Each item was lined up on the board sturdy and strong
It sat upon tree roots as if it had always belonged
Under the trees that stood there so sturdy and tall
The older girl spoke softly of the Midnight Fairy Ball
....
She told how the fairies would come and buy all these things
She spoke of their dances and the magic they bring
The little one listened with eyes sparkling and round
She stopped all her chatter and listened with not one small sound
They crept quietly out of the damp wooded glade
And tiptoed away to return the very next day.
....
The store was now empty, the shelf had been stripped bare
The young girl was delighted for all she no longer saw there
She ran off to find more small things for the fairies to buy
They found magic in the branches that seemed to reach to the sky
Each day they returned until one day they forgot
The board now lay empty, all the treasures were bought.
....
The woman knelt down in silence and looked under the trees
She found not one small treasure but found part of her history
She remembered the fairies and the magic they had
She remembered the sisters and no longer felt sad.
The woman had grown up and was no longer a girl
But she believed in the fairies and she believed in their world.
....
At night when the dark hangs over the moon
A fairy flies out and lands on a small silver spoon
She dances and sings until more dance in the night
They remember the two small girls who knew they were right
For fairies are out there and all just need to believe
It’s simply a matter of closing their eyes to let their minds see.

Aziza,I believe in fairies. And dragons. And wizards. But most of all, now after reading this, I believe in fairies.
Very well done.

I just read this to my Mom
...
and she cried.
Is it that bad?
...
Seriously, this is my older sister and me.
