Independence Day

I love how you let me be who I am.
No pretense, no plastic, no chemical sham.
I smile 'cause I mean it, I cry out of need.
No illusions to live, it's on real that I feed.

Sometimes I'm too serious, but if you knew me well
behind all that straight lace, there's a natural soft shell
that enjoys what is offered, sometimes raising hell
but would rather ingest and on your happiness dwell...

These are words, yes just words that sometimes get lost
in the being together, in the daily exhaust.
Seasoned with time as the moments unveil
with feelings of mutual, no let-downs to fail.

I am chasing those dreams, I am kissing each play
as the mornings arrive and in evenings' survey,
observing that life is unbending my way.
It's the dawn of tomorrow, my Independence Day.

I cannot imagine you being anything other than Maureen.  I love this new dimension in your work.
Write on!
